Correlation Between Mental Toughness and Injury Recovery through Ayurveda
Abstract
The process of injury recovery is multifaceted, influenced not only by physical treatment but also by psychological resilience. This study explores the correlation between mental toughness and the effectiveness of injury recovery when supported through Ayurvedic practices. Mental toughness—a psychological edge enabling individuals to cope effectively with stress, pain, and adversity—is hypothesized to enhance recovery outcomes by promoting adherence to treatment, pain tolerance, and emotional regulation. Ayurveda, a holistic system of medicine originating in India, emphasizes balance in body, mind, and spirit through personalized therapies including herbal medicine, Panchakarma, yoga, and meditation. Through a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative assessment of recovery times and psychological resilience with qualitative insights from patient experiences, the study reveals a positive correlation between higher mental toughness and accelerated, more effective recovery in individuals undergoing Ayurvedic treatment. Findings suggest that integrating psychological resilience training with Ayurvedic healing may optimize rehabilitation, offering a complementary pathway for enhancing recovery in both sports and clinical contexts. Further research is recommended to standardize methodologies and deepen understanding of mind-body integration in traditional healing systems.
