The Impact of Daily Yoga Practice on Stress and Academic Performance among College Athletes
Abstract
This study investigates the impact of daily yoga practice on stress reduction and academic performance among college athletes. As student-athletes often face intense physical, academic, and psychological demands, identifying effective strategies to enhance their well-being and academic success is essential. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving a sample of 60 college athletes from various sports disciplines. Participants were divided into control and experimental groups, with the latter engaging in a 30-minute guided yoga session each day for eight weeks. Quantitative data were collected using standardized stress inventories and academic performance metrics (e.g., GPA), while qualitative insights were gathered through participant interviews. Results indicated a significant reduction in perceived stress levels and a modest but statistically notable improvement in academic performance among the yoga group compared to controls. Participants also reported enhanced concentration, better sleep quality, and improved mood. These findings suggest that integrating daily yoga into student-athletes’ routines can be a viable non-pharmacological intervention to promote mental well-being and support academic achievement.
